Looking at the bar graph we note a noticeable difference in frame rate under Mantle versus Direct3D.
AMD Mantle is 22.7% faster than running under Direct3D 11.1. No changes were made, this is just simply an API difference.
While the game was playable at these settings under D3D, we did notice the framerate increase under Mantle.
What we noticed even more than the framerate increase though was now much smoother the game felt.
The frame time graph displays loud and clear what we were feeling during actual gameplay.
Under D3D 11.1 (the blue line) there was significant variance in the frame times.
When you look at the red line, Mantle, in comparison the red line does not exhibit all the spikes the blue line, D3D, does.
This means under Mantle the frame times are more consistent. Not only were these more consistent, but the frame times were also lower under Mantle.
Lower frame times is what you want, the lower the frame time, the smoother and more fluid the game is.
This becomes even more important when you throw multi-GPU in the mix.
