Μέρος της αποστολής του θα είναι και η αναλυτικότερη αναζήτηση ζωής. Εντυπωσιακές φωτογραφίες από τον Altas V της εκτόξευσης: Launch MARS.NASA.GOV The Mars 2020 spacecraft with its Perseverance Rover will launch on an Atlas V-541 rocket from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force... Αξιοσημείωτο ότι το σκάφος γύρισε σε safe mode αμέσως μετά την εκτόξευση, αλλά επέστρεψε σε κανονική λειτουργία πολύ σύντομα.
