These statistics include products in shops since the first April 2006. At least 100 units of each product listed below have been sold. Statistics per brand are based on a minimum sample of 500 units: Fortron: 0.7% Hiper: 1.2% Seasonic: 1.4% Thermaltake: 1.6% Tagan: 2.8% Enermax: 3.0% Antec: 9.5% Fortron comes first in the list followed by Hiper and Seasonic. Thermaltake is next and is the last manufacturer to have acceptable failure rates. Tagan, Enermax and most of all Antec are above the limit. For Antec, the SmartPower 2.0 range including the 500, 350 and 400 Watts versions has very high failure rates: respectively 21.6%, 18.1% and 17.3%. Not a single product has a rate below 2% and the best one is the Neo HE 430 watts at 2.6%. For Fortron, the figures are a bit more disparate from 0% for the most reliable model to 1.5% for the "least" reliable. Hiper's rates oscillate from 0.4% and 3.8%. The two models above 2% are the modular R 580 watts. For Seasonic, the leading products S12-500 and 600 are respectively at 1.8% and 0.9%. Thermaltake's rates vary from 0% to 2.5% except for the Silent Power 680 Watts which is at 6.6%. Tagan's figures are relatively stable from 2.3% to 3.3%. Finally, Enermax' rates oscillate from 1.8 to 5.1% (Liberty EL620AWT). After power supplies, we publish the failure rate of motherboards recorded by a major French e-commerce. These statistics include products sold since the first April 2006 and manufactures who have sold at least 500 units: - MSI : 2.49% - ASUSTeK : 2.60% - ASRock : 2.69% - Gigabyte : 2.95% - ABIT : 5.13% As you can see, only one manufacturer really stands out. ABIT has a much higher failure rate than any other manufacturer. The origin of this problem is the failure rate of their best seller the UL8 Socket 939 based on ULI chipset that reaches 9.6%. We can see, however, that the third best seller of the manufacturer, the KN8 nForce 4, is only at 0.8%. In the next paragraph, we will study the failure rates of several models from each of the manufacturers. At least 100 units of each products listed below must have been sold to be included to these statistics. MSI, who has the best rates especially thanks to very important sales of reliable entry level products, also has several problematic products. The MSI K9N ULTRA-2F, an AM2 & nForce 570 Ultra has a failure rate of 10.2%, the K8N Diamond Plus (nForce4 SLI x16 Socket 939) has a rate of 7.9% and the K9N SLI Platinium (nForce 570 SLI & AM2) of 6.7%. The Micro ATX MSI K9V GM-V based on VIA K8M890 has a very good rate of only 0.7%. For Gigabyte, only one model is over 5%: the very popular GA-965P-DS3 (6.3%). The DS4, however, is at 2.8%. The most reliable product for this manufacturer is the GA-945PL-S3. The e-commerce hasn't recorded a single failure for this motherboard! ASUSTeK wins the award of the least reliable motherboard with the P5N32-SLI Deluxe. This Socket 775 motherboard based on the nForce4 SLI Intel Edition has a failure rate of 30.1%! This isn't the only capricious model from ASUSTeK since the P5SD2-X based on SiS 656 is at 11% and the P5ND2-SLI at 7.1% (another nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition). The most reliable card for ASUS is the Micro ATX A8V-VM SE. Other products such as the P5B, P5B-E, P5B Deluxe and P5W-DH Deluxe also have acceptable rates (respectively 0.7%, 1.6%, and 2.4%). Finally, ASRock's rates are relatively close. They oscillate from 0% for the quite recent Micro ATX AM2NF6G-VSTA (NVIDIA GeForce 6100) to 4.2% for the 939Dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695). The only exception is the ALiveNF4G-DVI (NVIDIA GeForce 6100) which is at 7.8%. These figures are really interesting because they show that even the best manufacturers have pretty disastrous motherboards. Unfortunately, this is something that is quite difficult to detect during the tests.
