Futuremark launches browser benchmark

Names it Peacekeeper

As odd of a name as Futuremark could pick for their new browser benchmark, we have a feeling that Peacekeeper will be anything but a peace keeper, despite its play on the "browser wars" terminology often used when people compare browser features.

Futuremark has been quite good at stirring things up as of lately, but Peacekeeper is like to cause a lot more trouble than Futuremark's past benchmarks, least not with the browser makers. Unlike the Acid3 test, Peacekeeper takes the system behind the browser into account as well and does a lot more rigorous tests, mostly based on the JavaScript performance of the browser. This in itself will most likely be a huge poke in the eye for Microsoft, as Internet Explorer doesn't have the best JavaScript performance out there.

Peacekepper doesn't test security functionality, nor W3C conformity (like the Acid3 test), nor Flash performance or any other third party plug-ins. On the up side of things, Futuremark claims it doesn't rely on the speed or latency of your internet connection, which is always something. You can find the full FAQ here with a full breakdown of what Peacekeeper does and doesn't. It's worth noting that Peacekeeper is still in beta and things might yet change.

At the time of writing the fastest browser is Safari 4.0 on a Core i7 965 system with 6GB of RAM and a Geforce GTX 280 graphics card running Windows Vista. The current list of most popular browsers on the site consists of Chrome 1.0.154.48, Firefox 3.0.6, Firefox 3.0.7, Internet Explorer 7 and Opera 9.63.

Οι τετραπυρηνοι παντως , απ'οσο προλαβα να δω παιζουν καλυτερα.

Ο ΙΕ 8.0 beta και 8.0 χ64 beta ειναι για τον φουτσο.
