Ξέρει κανείς καλά το εν λόγω πρόγραμμα (προς επίλυση σχετικά εξειδικευμένης απορίας);

Το χρησιμοποιώ στα σερβεράκια στο γραφείο... Αν είναι αρκετά εξειδικευμένη η απορία σου, ίσως μπορέσω να σου απαντήσω αύριο που θα το έχω live.

Δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα εξειδικευμένη:

Μέχρι τώρα γινόταν backup σε εξωτερικό δίσκο (backup to disk folder).

Ακολούθησε format στο μηχάνημα και εκ νέου εγκατάσταση με τις ίδιες ακριβώς παραμέτρους. Τα υπάρχοντα media στον εξωτερικό δίσκο αναγνωρίστηκαν αυτόματα (αφού δόθηκε πάλι το ίδιο path του εξωτερικού σκληρού στην νέα εγκατάσταση) και μπήκαν (αύτοματα) στα Imported Media.

Το πρόβλημα είναι πως μπορούν πλέον να χρησιμοποιηθούν για restore; (αν δοκιμάσεις ζητάει να κάνεις τα media catalog αλλά το αντίστοιχο job που δοκιμάζω αποτυγχάνει).

Τώρα που το σκέφτομαι η ερώτηση πρέπει μάλλον να είναι σχετικά απλή για κάποιον που έχει ξαναστήσει το πρόγραμμα (εγώ το χρησιμοποιώ περίπου 1 χρόνο αλλά είναι η πρώτη φορά που το ξαναστήνω μετά από format στο ίδιο μηχάνημα).

Σημειωτέον ότι δόκίμασα να κάνω move τα media σε άλους φακέλους (media set κλπ) μπας και από εκεί δουλέψει το catalog και μετά το restore, αλλά χωρίς τύχη.

Λίγο δύσκολο να σκεφτώ κάτι αν δεν το έχω μπροστά μου το software... μήπως του έχεις πει να τα κάνει restore στο original folder και μιας και έκανες format δεν βρίσκει το path από το οποίο τα έπαιρνε backup ?

το πρόβλημα είναι ότι δεν ξεκινάει καν το restore

με το που θα πατήσεις restore (είτε από το menu είτε με δεξί κλικ στα media) σου λέει ότι δεν υπάρχει media σε catalog για να ξεκινήσει

με άλλα λόγια, αν καταλαβαίνω καλά, δεν μπορεί καν να ''διαβάσει'' τα media (αν και τα έχει βάλει μόνο του στα imported και μάλιστα στα ''Backup Exec and Windows NT Backup Media'')

Αν έχεις χρόνο θα ρίξεις μία ματιά μήπως έχουμε κανένα νέο; (ελπίζω να μην σε πιέζω)

Μέχρι αυτό το σημείο φτάνει?? όταν ξεκινήσει το restore job χτυπάει??

Για κάνε και μία δοκιμή με το windows backup...

δεν φτάνει μέχρι εκεί γιατί δεν μπορεί να δει media για να κάνει restore από αυτά

τα έχει στα imported αλλά δεν μπορεί να τα ''διαβάσει'' ούτε και να τα κάνει catalog

μήπως υπάρχει κάποια πολύ απλή διαδικασία για να ''δει'' τα Imported Media;

Από windows restore κάνει κάτι κουλά: Πάει να ξεκινήσει αλλά τελικά κολλάει (είχα και password στο Veritas οπότε νομίζω ότι γενικότερα μόνο από αυτό θα βγει - αν βγει - άκρη)

Λοιπόν, διαβάζοντας λίγο το manual πρέπει πρώτα να:

Cataloging Media in a Drive

Use Catalog to log the contents of a media created by a product other than this

installation of Backup Exec (imported media), or to create a new catalog if the catalog for

the media no longer exists. Media must have a catalog before data can be restored from it

or verified.

To catalog media:

1. Insert the media in a drive.

2. From the Devices tab, right-click the drive and select Inventory from the shortcut

menu.

3. Do one of the following:

- Right-click the drive to display the shortcut menu, and then click Catalog.

- Select a drive, and then on the Tools menu, point to Device Operations, and then

click Catalog.

Catalog Storage Media dialog box

The Catalog Storage Media dialog box contains the following items:

Catalog Storage Media options

Field Description/Action

Job Name Enter a name for this job. This is the name that Backup Exec

will prompt for when this media is needed for a restore

operation.

Password Enter the password for this password-protected media.

Confirm Password Enter the password again to confirm it.

Device Select device that contains the media you want to catalog.

Run Now Click this to submit the catalog job for immediate processing.

Schedule Click this to schedule the catalog job to be automatically run at

a later time.

Cancel Click this to cancel the catalog operation.

Help Click this to display help on this dialog box.

4. Click Run Now to proceed with the Catalog operation or Schedule to catalog the

media at another time.

After the catalog operation completes, the media label will appear in the right-hand

pane of the devices view.

5. Make a note of the label and go to the Restore Selections tab to view the contents of

the media and make restore selections.

ΟΚ, το Invertory έγινε κανονικά.

Αλλά έχω πρόβλημα με το step 3:

Με right click στο drive δεν υπάρχει option για Catalog. Catalog Option υπάρχει μόνο σε right click των media αλλά πάλι δεν δουλέυει (μετά το inventory)

click Catalog.

Ελπίζω να μην σε ταλαιπωρώ,,,,

Restore Operations and the Catalog

While backing up data from a device, Backup Exec creates a set of catalog files that reside

on the media server. These catalog files contain information about the contents of all

media and are used when selections are made for restore jobs.

Media backed up at other Backup Exec installations must be cataloged before data can be

viewed in the Restore Selections tab and selected for restore operations. This media

must have a Catalog operation performed on it before files can be selected to restore. For

more information, see “Cataloging Media in a Drive” (είναι το κομμάτι στο προηγούμενο post).

Setting Catalog Defaults

To configure the catalog defaults select Options from the Tools menu, and then click

Catalog.

Use storagemedia-based catalogs

Select this option to allow Backup Exec to read the catalog

information from the media. This feature allows media that is

not currently a part of the on-disk catalog (for example, media

that was written by another installation of Backup Exec) to be

cataloged in minutes.

Media-based catalogs allow quick cataloging of tapes that are

not included in the disk-based catalog. This feature allows

tapes to be cataloged in minutes, rather than hours which can

occur with traditional file-by-file cataloging methods.

Truncate catalogs after x days

Select this option to retain only the header information and to

remove all file and directory details after the specified number

of days. This option reduces the size of the catalogs

considerably. After the catalogs have been truncated however,

the files and directories cannot be restored unless they are

recataloged.

Remove unused catalogs after x days

This enables Backup Exec to automatically delete disk-stored

catalogs which have not been accessed in the specified number

of days. Enabling this feature can help manage disk space used

by catalogs; however, after removing catalog information for

media, the media must then be re-cataloged before data can be

selected from it for a restore operation. The access date for

disk-stored catalogs is updated each time data is restored

from, or appended to the media.

Current path

The path where the catalog files are located. This path defaults

to \Catalogs in the \Backup Exec\NT directory.

Catalog drive

Select a volume where the catalog files are located. This is

useful if you have limited disk space on your media server.

Catalog path

Specify a path on the volume for the catalog files. If the path

you provide does not exist, you will be prompted to create the

path.

Σε μένα, εμφανίζει την επιλογή catalog κανονικά,

εμένα με δεξί κλικ δίνει πολύ λιγότερες επιλογές (μεταξύ των οποίων δεν είναι το catalog - ούτε καν γκριζαρισμένο) - ίσως επειδή είναι back-to-disk Folder και όχι stand alone drive όπως εσένα

μπορείς να δοκιμάσεις δεξί κλικ στο backup to disk Folder 1 που έχεις πιο πάνω να δούμε αν σου βγάζει την επιλογή catalog;

τα προηγούμενα περί catalog, κατανοητά αλλά σου λένε τίποτα εσένα για το πρόβλημα;

Ουσιαστικά αυτό που κατάλαβα, είναι ότι πριν κάνεις restore θα πρέπει να γίνει catalog το media.

σωστά το πρόβλημα είναι γιατί δεν γίνεται (βγάζει error χωρίς κάτι παραπάνω)

Τι σου βγάζει δλδ?? δεν ανοίγει καν κάτι τέτοιο ?

ανοίγει κανονικά, ξεκινάει το job και μετά job failed

έψαξα αλλά δεν βρήκα παραπάνω πληροφορίες για τον λόγο του failure

ίσως αν βρούμε τον λόγο για το failure κάτι γίνει, αλλά πως;

υπάρχει περίπτωση να γίνεται catalog όλο το disk (όπως σε εσένα) και όχι μόνο το κάθε media ξεχωριστά; μάλλον αυτό δεν πρέπει να ισχύει σε backup-to-disk folders.

κάτι τελευταίο: όταν λες manual εννοείς το help που έχει στο cd;

Στο password, δοκίμασες τον κωδικό που λες ότι είχες δηλώσει?

Το catalog σε backup folder δεν μου το εμφανίζει σε κανέναν server... μόνο τα media sets.

Manual, εννοώ το

εννοείται ότι δοκίμασα το password αλλά τζίφος (αν και ακόμα και αν δεν βάλεις καθόλου φαίνεται να έχει την ίδια συμπεριφορα)

manual: εμένα η επιλογή είναι ''View....GUIDE'' αλλά είναι γκριζαρισμένη (περίεργο γιατί δεν θυμάμαι να την έχω αφήσει εκτός install)

οπότε το όλο θέμα εντοπίζεται στο γιατί δεν κάνει catalog...

ποια έκδοση έχεις;
